Gaafu Dhaalu is situated in the southern Maldives, about 400 kilometers south of the capital city, Malé. It forms the southern half of the larger Huvadhoo Atoll, which is divided into Gaafu Alifu Atoll (northern part) and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll (southern part). The atoll consists of 153 islands, of which around 10 islands are inhabited, with several others being developed into resorts or remaining uninhabited.
